A very rare special bin, one of the experimental wines produced by Max Schubert sourcing exceptional parcels of fruit. The pressure was high to achieve something special, given that this is effectively the follow-up to what is widely-considered to be Australia's greatest-ever wine, the 1962 Bin 60A.
The 1963 Bin 61 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the famed 'Block 42' within the Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley, along with an unidentified parcel of Shiraz from the Eden Valley. This is particularly curious and intriguing, as Eden Valley fruit was never used in any vintage of Grange, nor in any of the other notable special bin wines.
