2016 Chateau Haut-Brion
A blend of 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6.5% Cabernet Franc.
Wow. Stunning aromas of dark berries, plum, liquid minerals, blackberry liqueur, chocolate and cassis, which follow through onto the palate. This is rich, dense, and powerful, yet does not feel heavy or stewed, but rather fresh and intense. There's plenty of fresh acidity, and the tannins are dense and firm, yet exceptionally fine and polished. But the length just goes on and on, without any sense of cloying. Amazing wine already, this will doubtless improve further and drink superbly for many decades to come. 100 points, drink 2026 to 2086 (July 2019).
Other critics: 100 points, Antonio Galloni (Vinous); 99 points, Neal Martin (Vinous); 100 points, Lisa Perotti-Brown (Wine Advocate).
