Tenuta Nuova translates into English as New Property, named for the location of the vineyard far away from the other growers in the area after a lengthy study of the region's microclimates.

This wine comes from a mild vintage that produced a wine filled with red and black cherries, blackcurrant and a balsamic character that lifts the aromatics to new heights. Intense concentration and powerful tannins mean that this wine is only just now coming into its drinking window, years after release, but it will benefit from many more years to come.

It was made from grapes that were at first hand-selected for quality, then destemmed and further selected by an optical sorter (a very cool device that uses lasers to quickly identify and remove grapes that are anything less than perfect. What you end up with in the bottle is a paragon of quality, while the rest of the (still excellent) fruit will end up in the producer's Rosso di Montalcino.

Drink it now or wait a few more years, but whatever you do, make sure you drink it with a big and juicy steak.
