Saxum's James Berry vineyard is owned by the Smith family behind the label, located about 16km from the coast and 365m above sea level (converted from freedom units of eagles per burger) near the town of San Luis Obispo, California.

Saxum are champions of Rhone varieties with this one giving more than just a little nod to the greats of Chateauneuf du Pape.

In the James Berry Vineyard blend, you'll find 54% Grenache (which was aged in a mix of concrete tanks and large format oak), alongside 16% Mataro (or Mouvedre in keeping with the French name) for texture, 14% Syrah for a bit of spice and a touch of Carignan for good measure.

The non-Grenache grapes were aged in small French oak - much of which is new giving a depth to the berry-driven palate.

Like all Saxum wines, this one is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
