Ravera is a difficult MGA to categorise generally given its massive size (it is by far the largest MGA in Barolo) and its widely varying altitude and soils, but there are a handful of producers that consistently produce powerful wines worthy of lengthy aging.

One such producer is the iconic Vietti. Although the winery was sold to the Krause Group - an American investment firm - in 2016, Luca Currado-Vietti stayed on as chief winemaker until 2023, making this release still firmly in the hands of the old family tradition.

The 2019 Vietti Ravera Barolo is an intensely concentrated wine with powerful minerality, dense tannin structure and an orange zest character that gives a great base to the spices that define this wine.

The region of Barolo as a whole has had a couple of great vintages in recent years, but there aren't many wines from the spectacular 2019 harvest around anymore - particularly icons like this.
