2021 JJ Prüm 'Wehlener Sonnenuhr' Spätlese
Grape: Riesling
Every so often you come across a truly style-defining producer and for Germany's famed Mosel region, it is Joh. Jos. Prüm. Through trend after trend they have produced the same quality riesling from a handful of famed parcels. No changes on the label, no changes in the bottle.
Prüm's Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese riesling is dense with elegant, subtle spices, fresh herbs and of course a mountain of stone fruit and ripe yellow apples. This is a prized wine that will keep in the cellar for many years to come.
Spätlese refers to the ripeness of grapes at the time of harvest - a quality highly prized in a region that was once at the northern limits of where grapes could be grown. It is characterised by a noticeable amount of sugar, but don't be fooled into thinking this is a dessert wine. Have it as an aperetif, or right through a meal of pork sausages and bratkartoffeln.
