Domaine Charvin's single Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine is produced from just over eight hectares of vines averaging around 50 years of age, farmed entirely organically. The blend is typically 85% Grenache, with 5% each of Syrah, Mourvedre and Vaccarese. Winemaking is traditional, with no destemming, fermentations take place in cement tanks with no oak used whatsoever, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered after around 21 months' aging.
A further 16 hectares of vines are owned in the Cotes du Rhone appellation.
The 2022 is a powerful-yet-refined Chateauneuf, with layers of rich, complex fruit and fine, firm and persistent tannins. Whilst not a powerhouse, at least in terms of what this appellation is capable of, it nonetheless clocks in at 15.5% alcohol and will reward a decade or two in the cellar.
