Chiara Boschis' Mosconi is the wine that many Barolo fanatics reach for. The Cannubi is the powerhouse that grabs the headlines, the Via Nuova is the regional expression that often gets overlooked, but the Mosconi is the elegant, aromatic and perfumed wine that gets to the heart of so many Barolo fans.

The Mosconi vineyard is filled with loose sandy soils and sits at about 400m elevation, and while there are few producers making wine from this fruit, it is the Chiara Boschis release that has keen collectors salivating.

While perfumed notes of rose and violet are intensely prevalent, there is also a complex flavour profile of ripe fruit peppered with a bouquet of spices.

This is a perfect accompaniment to Italian cured meats, truffles and game, but if you've got the patience, I'd hold off opening that for the next decade or two.
