From Escarpment’s acclaimed estate in Martinborough, the 2022 'Kupe' Pinot Noir is sourced entirely from the winery’s original home block on Te Muna Road, first planted in 1999. The site’s free-draining alluvial gravel soils, combined with Martinborough’s cool, dry climate, produce Pinot Noir with impressive depth, aromatic complexity and finely defined structure.

The nose is richly perfumed, revealing dark cherry, ripe raspberry and red plum, with lifted notes of rose petal, lavender and orange peel. The palate is generous and layered, combining concentrated dark fruit with hints of cedar, sandalwood and earthy mushroom. A firm framework of fine-grained tannins lends real presence and shape, while fresh acidity keeps the wine focused and composed.
