Massolino has been a family run operation since 1986, spanning a whopping 4 generations of family winemakers. Based in the highly prestigious village of Serralunga d'Alba (where grapes for the coveted Monfortino Barolo grapes are sourced) the Massolino Barolo flies under the radar; and the quality-to-price assessment very much supports that theory. For how long that stays the case remains to be seen, although I'd hazard a guess and say that they're a worthy investment right now. 

Serralunga d'Alba is located on the eastern most ridge of the Barolo region, and the characteristic limestone rich soils of its hillside vineyards are renowned for producing structured-yet-elegant, age-worthy Nebbiolo's. The family follows traditional winemaking practices, with 30 months maturation in large seasoned oak casks.

A beautifully perfumed Nebbiolo, showing red cherry, raspberry and dried roses, with hints of wild herbs and spice. Bright acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins provide plenty of structure, finishing long, savoury and elegant.
