Pyramid Valley's 'Field of Fire' Chardonnay comes from a close-planted vineyard in New Zealand's North Canterbury region, located around an hour's drive from the South Island city of Christchurch.  The tiny (yet recently-expanded) vineyard is further inland than most sites in North Canterbury, planted on the foothills overlooking the valley.

Mostly derived from the vines planted in 2000 by visionaries Mike and Claudia Weersing, this is a mineral-driven, steely, saline Chardonnay with hints of grapefruit pith, lime juice and an exceptional tension that will ease with a little bottle age.

If you're looking for big oak, look elsewhere. This is a wine for those who like their Chardonnay fresh, floral, concentrated and pure.  Yet do not mistake this as a wine somehow lacking in power, complexity or depth of crystalline purity.  An absolute masterpiece produced in tiny quantities each year.
