Saintes Pierres de Nalys is the wine from the historic estate Château de Nalys in the northeast corner of Châteauneuf-du-Pape - a wine good enough to attract the attention of Rhône giants E. Guigal, who took it over in 2017.
The wine produced here has a disproportionately high portion of Muscardin - a grape that makes up about 5% of the wine, but only about 0.4% of the region's plantings. Muscardin provides acid to the blend, which gives this wine a freshness its peers in the region can sometimes lack, despite it's mammoth 15.5% alcohol content.
This freshness only helps give a pop to the majority (65%) Grenache and 25% Syrah which gives classic Châteauneuf density, concentration and weight.
In a world where Châteauneuf-du-Pape is extraordinarily expensive, this wine offers great bang for buck.
