Did you know about white Beaujolais?
Chardonnay makes up a measly two percent of area under vine in Beaujolais, but Jean Foillard has found a parcel worthy of his first white wine.
The grapes for Foillard's Blanc come from the village of Pizay, which sits just outside of his heartland cru of Morgon.
Half of the wine was thrown into concrete vats, with the rest in a combination of old oak and sandstone. The result is in keeping with the style of Foillard's reds - a wine of pristine, clear fruit unencumbered by the winemaker's hand.
