From Valli Wines, the 2023 Gibbston Pinot Noir comes from the original vineyard established by pioneering winemaker Grant Taylor in 1999, in one of Central Otago’s coolest and highest subregions. With a long, slow ripening season, Gibbston produces Pinot Noir of striking aromatic detail and fine-boned structure, shaped by the region’s schist-derived soils and cool alpine climate.

The nose is perfumed and savoury, with dark cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry layered with dried rose petals, thyme, rosemary and a subtle hint of mushroom. On the palate, the wine is finely structured and concentrated, with a core of bright red fruit balanced by earthy complexity, delicate spice and a distinctive mineral edge. Fine, powdery tannins lend texture and grip, while vibrant acidity brings energy and precision to a long, savoury finish. There is a wonderful sense of purity and tension throughout, with the fruit and herbal nuances woven together in a style that rewards close attention.
