From one of Beaujolais’ most compelling traditional growers, Daniel Bouland’s 2024 'Vieilles Vignes' Morgon Corcelette is sourced from exceptionally old Gamay vines rooted in the granitic soils of Corcelette, a prized sector in the northern reaches of the Morgon appellation. The oldest parcels here have been cultivated for generations, producing small quantities of fruit with remarkable concentration and aromatic detail. Fermented as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts, the wine reflects Bouland’s hands-off approach, allowing the character of these venerable vines and their distinctive terroir to shine through.
The nose is wonderfully fragrant, with crushed raspberry, wild strawberry and blueberry layered with rose petal, liquorice and a subtle hint of spice. The palate is finely textured yet deeply flavoured, revealing concentrated berry fruit alongside earthy complexity and a delicate mineral thread. Silky tannins lend structure without sacrificing elegance, while bright acidity brings freshness and drive to a long, mouth-watering finish. There is a lovely interplay between the wine’s floral perfume and its underlying depth, with a savoury edge that adds further dimension as it opens in the glass. A beautifully expressive example of old-vine Gamay, combining the charm of Beaujolais with the concentration and structure to reward several years in the cellar.
