Kumeu River's Hunting Hill vineyard dates back to 1982 (replanted in 2000) and thanks to its sun-facing slope produces ripe and rich wines with a magnificent minerality.
Don't be fooled by the characteristic fruit ripeness. This wine has the estate's signature tension with minerality and acid ensuring a balanced wine.
True to the label's love of oak, this wines was barrel fermented before spending 11 months in a barrel where it underwent 100% malolactic fermentation.
2024 also saw low yields, although unlike 2023 it was due to a downpour right at budburst - damaging the new shoots that would eventually become grapes. Fortunately aside from nature flexings its muscles, the remainder of the growing season was excellent. It was dry and warm, but never exceeding 29°C. The result is some of the best Kumeu River releases in recent memory.
