Maté's vineyard (that's MAH-tay, not "mate") is named after Maté Brajkovich who planted the vineyard in 1990, leading to what would become one of New Zealand's most revered wines.
Year after year Kumeu River's Maté's release provides a balanced wine with exquisite tension between the citrus centred around the lime or orange spectrum, a hint of bergamont and a dollop of creaminess from the barrel fermentation and 100% malo during aging.
This wine is exceptional now, but will benefit from six or seven years of careful cellaring.
