NV Laherte Frères 'Les Beaudiers' Rosé Saignée

Grape: Pinot Munier

Made from 100% old vine (the youngest vines were planted in 1965!) Pinot Munier from the Champagne-region village of Chavot. This single-vineyard wine comes from a vineyard known as "Les Baudiers", but legend has it a misprinted label on the first vintage went out as Les Beaudiers and it stuck.

Mislabelling lore aside, it's what's in the bottle that is important. This is a Rosé de Saignée. Now we don't want to get too nerdy here (come into the shop and say hi if you want us to really geek out), but what that means is that the whole juice spent time on skins (as opposed to most rosé Champagne which is a white wine topped up with a little red towards the end) resulting in a textural and powerful wine. Four years on lees give this wine an elegance and complexity that is difficult to match.
