The famed lieu-dit of Corcelette in the Beaujolais cru of Morgon has produced some of the most expressive wines to come out of Beaujoalis in the last few years.
There are excellent examples from a myriad of producers (check out Daniel Bouland's example here!) but Foillard's is the internationally accepted benchmark of the site.
Grown on sandy, decomposed granite soils, this wine offers an elegant and perfumed expression of Gamay.
Expect red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry sit alongside crushed violet and delicate spice, while the palate is supple and silky, with fine tannins and a balanced line of fresh acidity. This is a wine that favours restraint over force, elegance over brutality, with intense fragrance and complexity doing all the heavy lifting. There's plenty of detail to get lost in here, without the need for a wine to shout about it.
